The European City Facility (EUCF) has empowered 330 cities and local authorities, the first cohort of its +400 beneficiaries, to plan a combined €31 billion in sustainable energy investments, according to its newly launched Impact Dashboard. This tool tracks progress across sectors, countries, and funding rounds, revealing a powerful momentum in turning climate ambitions into action.

€1.2 Billion Already Secured

Early monitoring reports from 140 beneficiaries show that €1.2 billion has already been mobilised — 48 times the EUCF’s initial €25 million investment — demonstrating a remarkable leverage effect. With 330 Investment Concepts developed so far, this figure is set to grow as more beneficiaries advance through the monitoring phase.

From Vision to Impact

The EUCF, backed by the European Commission’s CINEA (Horizon 2020 and LIFE CET Programme), helps municipalities transform ideas into investment-ready projects. The results speak for themselves:

🔹 15,000 GWh in annual energy savings

🔹 12,000 GWh in renewable energy production

🔹 11 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions reduced yearly

Projects range from Ravenna’s €15 million public grant success to Schaerbeek’s €1+ billion regional renovation programme, showcasing the diversity and scale of local climate action.

Overcoming Challenges, Scaling Ambition

While progress is strong, some beneficiaries face hurdles like shifting political priorities, financial constraints, and limited capacity. The EUCF’s capacity-building efforts aim to bridge these gaps, ensuring cities can access funding and expertise to drive long-term change.

Why It Matters

Local authorities are at the heart of Europe’s energy transition. By providing tailored financial support (€60,000 lump sums) and expertise, the EUCF helps cities develop robust investment plans, unlocking billions for building renovation, district heating, renewables, smart grids, and sustainable mobility.

As more cities finalise their plans, the Impact Dashboard will continue to highlight how local ambition translates into real-world impact, supporting Europe’s climate goals.
