FEDARENE Reaffirms Leadership: Seamus Hoyne Re-Elected as Secretary General

Protaras, Cyprus – On the 26th of June 2024, during the 2024 FEDARENE General Assembly, FEDARENE members have once again elected Seamus Hoyne as their Secretary General.
The General Assembly, held in the beautiful coastal town of Protaras, Cyprus, brought together almost 70 members to discuss the organization’s strategy for the upcoming years, share ideas, and make crucial decisions. One of the key decisions was the re-election of Seamus Hoyne as Secretary General for another term. Members praised his exemplary leadership and significant contributions over the past years.

Seamus Hoyne brings over 25 years of experience in energy, education, and flexible learning environments. He has developed extensive networks regionally, nationally, and internationally in the sustainable energy and higher education fields. A Mechanical Engineer by training, he holds Masters degrees in Renewable Energy and Energy Management from the University of Limerick and University of Ulster, Ireland. From 1998 to 2012, he served as the Managing Director of the Tipperary Energy Agency (TEA), transforming it into one of the leading Energy Agencies in Ireland and Europe. Currently, he is the Chair of the TEA Board and Director of Electric Ireland Superhomes, a One Stop Shops establish by the TEA. Since 2017, he is the coordinator the EU ManagEnergy Initiative.

Seamus took up the role of Secretary General of FEDARENE in 2018 and has since worked closely with the FEDARENE office, members, President, and Vice-Presidents to advance numerous initiatives and strategic objectives, including the establishment of the Island College.

Following his re-election, Mr. Hoyne expressed his gratitude and commitment:

It has been a highlight of my professional career to act as Secretary General of FEDARENE for the past six years. Thanks to our President Julije Domac, our members, and our dedicated team, we have positioned FEDARENE as Europe’s leading network of energy agencies. I look forward to continuing implementing our strategic and business plans with Patrick over the next three years, delivering maximum impact for the Federation.

The re-election of Seamus Hoyne is a testament to his successful leadership and the trust FEDARENE members have in his vision and abilities. The next three years promise to build on past achievements, with a renewed focus on supporting local and regional actions to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
Supporting Seamus Hoyne in his role is Patrick Biard, former Head of European and International Affairs at Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Energie Environnement (AURA-EE, FR), who will continue to serve as Deputy Secretary General. Patrick’s priorities for this new term include promoting FEDARENE and its members at both regional and European levels, supporting network management, and engaging the College 4 members—esteemed individuals who have significantly contributed to FEDARENE over many years.

The President of FEDARENE also shared their thoughts on the re-election:

We are thrilled to have Seamus Hoyne continue as our Secretary General. His visionary leadership and dedication have been instrumental in advancing FEDARENE’s mission and solidifying our position as a leading network of energy agencies in Europe. Together, with our combined efforts and collaboration, I am confident that we will achieve even greater milestones in the years to come.
