The European Commission has reinvigorated support for the establishment of energy agencies, marking a significant step in advancing the continent’s clean energy transition. The most recent instance of such funding ended in 2013 with the the Intelligent Energy Europe funding scheme.
The doors have swung open once more with the latest call under the LIFE Clean Energy Transition work-programme 2024, presenting a unique opportunity for local and regional authorities to establish new energy agencies.
The emergence of local and regional energy agencies as effective delivery agents in the energy transition is a testament to their indispensable role. Acting as the European Commission’s territorial anchors, these agencies champion the realization of European policies, thereby enhancing the well-being of citizens, advancing climate neutrality, and fostering sustainable societies. FEDARENE has been leading the charge since 1990, serving as a springboard for uniting European regions in their pursuit of clean and efficient energy solutions.
Empowered by the Energy Agency Facilitation Model, energy agencies serve as catalysts for decarbonization efforts. Empowered with public mandates and a commitment to independent facilitation, they assist stakeholders in surmounting obstacles, fostering collaboration, and making informed decisions aligned with regional energy objectives. Leveraging their diverse approaches, energy agencies tailor solutions to address local challenges, thus cultivating a rich reservoir of experiences to drive and sustain transformative change.
A Call for LIFE Standard Action Projects (SAPs) seeks to empower local and regional authorities in establishing new energy agencies to catalyze on-the-ground implementation of the clean energy transition. Offering co-funding support of up to 60% of eligible costs, this funding underscores a commitment to bottom-up actions by key stakeholders in the EU energy transition.
Projects under this call are expected to align with EU energy efficiency and renewable energy policies, showcasing their positive impact on the overarching goal of a clean and equitable energy transition.
