Regio1st launches a new Mentoring Program to boost Energy Efficiency in Regional Planning

The Regio1st project is opening a ground-breaking mentoring program designed to help local and regional authorities to integrate the Energy Efficiency First (EE1st) principle into their planning and decision-making processes. The program is open to authorities and stakeholders across Europe and offers a unique opportunity to gain expert knowledge, practical tools, and personalized guidance on embedding energy efficiency into regional and local plans.

The EE1st principle emphasizes the importance of prioritizing energy efficiency measures in planning and policy decisions, ensuring that energy-saving solutions are considered before investing in new energy infrastructure. This mentoring program aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to apply this principle effectively, thereby supporting Europe’s transition to a more sustainable energy system.

The program is structured around three key learning topics:

  1. Energy Efficiency in Plans: Participants will receive guidance on how to incorporate energy efficiency into regional energy and climate plans, using the Regio1st Planning Framework, an online tool designed to support the planning process.
  2. Multilevel Governance: This cycle will focus on the importance of cooperation across different levels of governance (local, regional, national) to implement the EE1st principle in national energy and climate plans.
  3. Just Transition Fund: Participants will explore how to access funding for energy efficiency projects through mechanisms like the Just Transition Fund, learning how to navigate eligibility criteria and secure financial support for their initiatives.

By participating in this mentoring program, local and regional authorities will benefit from hands-on training provided by experienced mentors, many of whom come from pilot regions that have already successfully implemented EE1st strategies. The program is designed to facilitate peer-to-peer learning, allowing participants to exchange ideas, learn from best practices, and build a network of professionals dedicated to advancing sustainable energy policies.

Applications for the mentoring program are open until the end of November 2024, with the program officially starting in January 2025. Selected participants will be matched with mentors and placed into learning groups based on their specific needs and interests. All sessions will be conducted online, making it accessible to participants from all over Europe.
