LENERG Energy Agency

From its office in Debrecen, Hungary, LENERG promotes energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources, supporting sustainable development goals by working with public and private actors nationally and internationally.

LENERG Energy Agency Nonprofit LLC is a local energy agency located in Debrecen, the second largest city in Hungary. The agency was established in 2008 to increase energy efficiency and promote the use of renewable energy sources.  

LENERG primarily focuses on the Hajdú-Bihar County (including the city of Debrecen) but also works with other national and international actors. To support sustainable development goals, the agency also works in close cooperation with public and private actors alike. 

The organisation is owned by the University of Debrecen and the Foundation for Development of University of Debrecen. LENERG employs a team with relevant experience in project management and the fields of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.  

Activities 

Social responsibility is an essential part of LENERG’s activities. As part of its operations, LENERG distributes information about renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, practices, and financing opportunities, as well as prepares energy strategies and action plans. The target groups for the organisation are local public and private actors and citizens.  

LENERG’s activities include the following:  

  • Planning strategies, surveys and action plans for public authorities and enterprises; 
  • Preparing climate strategies and energy and climate action plans, such as Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs); 
  • Participation in the preparation and management of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects; 
  • Sharing practices related to energy savings, smart solutions, and technologies via workshops and training; 
  • Contributing to the energy certification of public and private buildings; 
  • Preparing projects, such as managing local RES and EE projects; 
  • Organising workshops on environmental and energy topics; 
  • Providing training materials for children at primary school. 

At the international level, LENERG has also taken part in international cooperation projects in the framework of the following programmesINTERREG Europe ProgrammeCentral Europe Programme, Horizon 2020, Norway Grants, and Danube Transnational Programme.  

LENERG is also committed to participating in international projects and strengthening its connections with international partners, for example, by establishing consortia, proposing project ideas, and applying for project calls. 

Currently, LENERG is aiming to become more actively involved in the promotion of innovative activities related to energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies, methods and solutions.
