LIFE European City Facility / Calls

(LIFE) European City Facility (EUCF), financed under the LIFE Programme, is the new and enhanced chapter of the already successful European City Faciliy, financed under the H2020 programme. We will keep providing tailored technical and financial support to municipalities for their sustainable energy projects.

Calls

The European City Facility has planned 7 Calls for applications to finance the development of investment concepts on sustainable energy projects.

+400 local authorities are receiving financing to kick off their sustainable energy actions. Each EUCF beneficiary receives a lump sum of 60.000Eur for the development of an investment concept on sustainable energy.

7th Call for applications

The 7th (and last) Call for Applications will open on October 15 until December 18, 2024. Learn more here.

Eligible applicants

Eligible applicants of the European City Facility are municipalities, local authorities, their groupings, and local public entities aggregating municipalities / local authorities, from the EU Member States, Iceland or Ukraine.

In order to be eligible for EUCF, applicants must have a Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) or other climate or energy plan with mitigation targets.

How to apply

The application process consists of 2 steps:

  1. Eligibility check: 5 questions with yes/no answer where the interested applicant self-assess its eligibility
  2. Application form: accessible online on the EUCF platform and formed of 4 parts: identification of the applicant, political commitment, proposed investment project and use of EUCF support. The application form shall be submitted in English.

What is financed?

The EUCF finances the development of an investment concept on sustainable energy projects.

The EUCF grant can be used for a number of activities: feasibility studies, legal analysis, stakeholders’ engagement…

What can energy agencies do?

Energy agencies are the best placed to support interested applicants, especially small municipalities, in their EUCF journey.

They can be hired by the EUCF beneficiaries to carry out the activities financed through the EUCF grant, including activities of project management.
