Six primary schools have been selected all over Cyprus in order to undergo an Energy Audit for free. The aim of these energy audits is to provide to each school an energy report, which will include interventions for energy and CO2 emissions savings in different levels, up to the nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB) level.
More precisely, the aim is for these reports is to include individual measures for energy upgrade, measures for an energy upgrade to level B or A (according to the Cypriot standards and methodology) and lastly, measures for an energy upgrade to a nZEB (as defined in Cyprus). At the same time, a database with the most efficient measures for the energy upgrade of a typical school will be created.
The project is technically supported by the Cyprus Energy Agency through the Interreg-Med project ‘TEESCHOOLS’, which aims at providing new solutions to Local Authorities, both in technical and financial terms, to implement Nearly Zero Energy Building renovation activities in Mediterranean Schools.
The energy audits are currently in process, however, a parallel action related to the users’ behaviour, is scheduled to begin. This regards the training of the students, the educational staff and the technical staff of the school on energy-saving issues. The training will be provided for free to all the schools that participate in the energy audits, along with educational material which is produced with the contribution of the Pedagogical Institute of Cyprus.
