Book Launch & Policy Discussion: Europe’s Energy Independence Moment
About the Event
Join us on 27 January 2026 at the European Parliament Info Hub for the launch of European Energy Independence through Investing in Renewables: Empowering Freedom, hosted by MEP Davor Ivo Stier, followed by a high-level policy discussion on Europe’s energy independence.
Europe is entering a decisive moment for its energy future. On 27 January 2026 (13:00–14:30), FEDARENE, hosted by MEP Davor Ivo Stier, will launch the book European Energy Independence through Investing in Renewables: Empowering Freedom at the European Parliament Info Hub, followed by a policy discussion on “Europe’s Energy Independence Moment.”
The event takes place just after the European Parliament and the Council reached a provisional agreement to phase out imports of Russian natural gas under REPowerEU, and as the European Commission prepares its revised “Strengthening Energy Security” package for early 2026.

The book, edited by Julije Domac, Velimir Segon and Filip Dumitriu, argues that lasting European energy independence cannot be achieved by switching suppliers alone. It requires a stronger internal energy market, decentralised renewable energy, and support to the cities, regions, and energy agencies implementing the transition on the ground.
The panel will explore how the shift away from Russian fossil fuels can lead to lasting autonomy through renewables, how Europe’s multilevel energy governance can be strengthened, and how local and regional actors can accelerate deployment and efficiency.
A networking drink will close the event.
NB: Submissions via the registration form will be reviewed individually, and organisers will confirm participation.
