Liguria Regional Energy Agency

As a joint-stock public agency, IRE Liguria supports infrastructure development, urban building and renovation, and the implementation of energy policies in the Liguria region of Italy.

Liguria Regional Energy Agency (IRE Liguria) is a joint-stock public agency established by the Liguria Region to support infrastructure development, urban building and renovation, and the implementation of energy policies at the regional level.  

IRE Liguria has over 45 highly skilled employees with technical experience in design and planning, public procurement, project management, communication, training and EU projects. Specifically, IRE Liguria’s Energy Department has 15 professionals with a mission to identify, promote and implement energy and climate policies and introduce new energy technologies in Liguria.  

Activities 

The agency’s operations include:  

  • Preparing and supporting the development of energy plans, local and regional action plans, feasibility studies, and tendering procedures 
  • Supporting local administrations in drafting building regulations  
  • Providing support for energy efficiency items such as energy certification of buildings, air conditioning systems, and energy audits 
  • Managing the Liguria Energy Consortium for the purchase of electricity and natural gas on the free market 
  • Promoting and implementing new forms of management, such as the Energy Performance Contract 
  • Offering training courses for designers, installers, energy certifiers, and condominium administrators 
  • Providing energy education to young people 

IRE Liguria is also heavily involved in drafting and managing European projects, having taken part in over 50 EU projects in the last 20 years. These projects mostly focused on energy and climate-related topics (examples: Horizon 2020, Interreg, Climate-Kic, FP7, IEE, LIFE, etc.). 

In recent years, IRE Liguria’s EU activity has been extending its focus beyond energy and climate to include other sustainable topics such as green infrastructure, nature-based solutions, urban regeneration/ heritage, and mobility.
