Modena Energy and Sustainable Development Agency

AESS – Agenzia per l’Energia e lo Sviluppo Sostenibile, was founded in Modena in 1999. The Agency currently gathers more than 100 public bodies mostly located in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy.

AESS is primarily involved in supporting public institutions in the energy transition through the promotion of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, reduction of energy consumption, and by fundraising adequate resources for its associates, organising information campaigns, and capacity building.

The Agency is involved in a wide range of projects, also at European level, including the Covenant of Mayors’ Sustainable Energy and Climate Plans. Since 2021, AESS has chaired the Italian Association of Energy Agencies, RENAEL.
