In April 2021, the Covenant of Mayors – Europe has entered a new phase, officially launching its renewed ambition of a fairer and climate-neutral Europe.
Signatories (municipalities and local authorities) now commit to reaching climate neutrality by 2050, implementing adaptation to climate change measures and alleviating energy poverty through a just transition. They also commit to engaging their citizens, businesses and local stakeholders in the transition.

To celebrate this new phase, the achievements of the Community, and debate how to commit, engage, act and network towards a fairer, climate-neutral Europe, FEDARENE and the Covenant of Mayors – Europe Office organised a small Covenant Ceremony to welcome new fellow members to the Community.
The event was the occasion for Croatian and Slovenian mayors to debate on how to connect the local plans and actions to the regional and national ones and on how this process can happen and be effective.
The debate was officially opened by EC Commissioner Dubravka Šuica, Vice – President for Democracy and Demography.
It was organised as official satellite event of the European Covenant Ceremony and the Conference on the Future of Europe.
