EVE launched in February 2016 the OPERA project (Open Sea Operating Experience to Reduce Wave Energy Costs). Within its framework, open-sea operating data from on offshore trial will be gathered, analyzed and shared, to validate and de-risk several industrial innovations for wave energy, taking them from a laboratory environment to a marine environment, opening the way to long term cost-reduction of over 50% .
With an infrastructure [Bimep] situated 15 km from Bilbao, located off the coast of Bizkaia, the Region takes advantage of the main energy resources available: wind and waves. The project focuses on 4 technological innovations: bi-radial turbine, advanced control systems, shared mooring system configuration, elastomeric mooring tether.
