REGILIENCE’s third Open Training Session (OTS), “Financial Support for Regional Adaptation”, gave an overview of climate adaptation funding opportunities for regional actors. The session detailed available funding sources for different steps of adaptation pathways. The event was part of a series of webinars from REGILIENCE on capacity-building aimed at regional actors working on climate adaptation. Two European projects with cascade funding opportunities, the CLIMAAX and the Pathways2Resilience (P2R) projects, were introduced to webinar participants. The details of the scope and activities of the two projects, along with their respective application processes, were explained.

Takeaways

  • There are tools available to help find both general and niche funding opportunities for regional climate resilience and adaptation projects.
  • The climate adaptation funding overview tool can help project developers discover and compare European funding opportunities based on their budget, location, sector, and more.
  • The CLIMAAX project offers financial and technical support, specifically focusing on climate risk and vulnerabilities.
  • P2R supports regions and communities’ just and transformational pathways to climate adaptation with milestones and checkpoints to guide project development.
  • The main selection criteria for P2R are the most vulnerable regions and diversity of selected participants (countries, bioregions, climate risk types, scale, etc).
