ManagEnergy Talk: When Europe heats up: can our energy system keep its cool?
About the Event
What would a European city look like at 50°C? This ManagEnergy Talk at EUSEW explores how regions and energy agencies can prepare for a hotter, more climate-stressed future.

What happens when extreme heat becomes the new normal in European cities? As temperatures rise across the continent—from Paris to Athens, Barcelona to Berlin—local and regional actors are increasingly confronted with the urgent need to adapt energy systems and infrastructure to a changing climate.
Taking place as part of the EU Sustainable Energy Week 2026 (EUSEW) programme on 9 June at 16:30 in the Charlemagne building, this ManagEnergy Talk will address one of the most pressing challenges of the energy transition: ensuring resilience under climate stress.
The session will feature Alexandre Florentin, climate expert and former Paris City Councillor, who led the pioneering “Paris at 50°C” mission. Drawing on this experience, he will explore how extreme heat scenarios can help cities stress-test their systems, anticipate vulnerabilities, and inform concrete public action.
Beyond decarbonisation, the discussion will highlight the critical role of adaptation. How can we ensure that the energy systems we are building today remain reliable in the face of rising temperatures? What does it mean for regions and energy agencies to plan for resilience while continuing to drive the clean energy transition?
Combining strategic foresight with real-world insights, this session will invite participants to rethink the design of energy systems that are not only sustainable, but also robust and future-proof.
The session will be followed by a networking cocktail, offering an opportunity to exchange with peers and continue the conversation.
