REGILIENCE+ Open Training Session #1 – Agriculture in focus: Connecting water, risks and financing for resilience
About the Event

Agriculture is a crucial sector in the EU, providing food, supporting rural livelihoods, and contributing to economic stability. At the same time, the sector is highly vulnerable to climate-related hazards such as droughts, floods, and heatwaves, which already cause significant losses across the continent. It also contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, making it both affected by and a contributor to climate change. To continue delivering essential goods while preserving the environment, agriculture relies on healthy and well-managed ecosystems that sustain soil, water,
and biodiversity.
Addressing these challenges cannot be done in isolation. Sustainable agriculture requires considering multiple interdependent factors, particularly water management, risk reduction, and access to financing. By integrating these dimensions, related measures can be more resilient and capable of responding to climate-related shocks.
Building on this context, the first OTS, part of the REGILIENCE+ series Contributing to Climate Resilience, will use agriculture as a starting point to explore ways to strengthen resilience at regional and local levels. The session will showcase tools, solutions, and/or case studies that address agriculture while considering key interconnections with water management, risks, and financing. A dedicated space for discussion will allow participants to reflect on these examples, exchange experiences, and consider how these approaches might inform practices in their particular contexts.
