S.ENERGIA – Regional Energy Agency for Barreiro, Moita, Montijo, and Alcochete

S.ENERGIA acts as a catalyst for the energy transition in its region, promoting both social and technical innovation. It supports local authorities in climate planning and provides proximity services to citizens to mitigate energy poverty and promote efficiency.

The S.ENERGIA – Regional Energy Agency for Barreiro, Moita, Montijo, and Alcochete is a private non-profit association established in May 2007. Its creation was supported by the European “Intelligent Energy Europe” program and its founding Municipalities. The Agency is managed by a Board of Directors that ensures close alignment with the executive leadership of the four municipalities it represents. The Board is composed of a President (under a two-year rotating presidency) and three Vice-Presidents, who are Mayors or Deputy Mayors of Barreiro, Moita, Montijo, and Alcochete. The operational management is led by the Agency’s Director.

The Agency’s mission focuses on promoting energy efficiency, the use of local renewable resources, and the rational use of energy. It serves as a central hub for a wide range of regional stakeholders, including local authorities, transport operators, businesses, higher education institutions, and social solidarity institutions (IPSS).

Projects & Activities

S.ENERGIA demonstrates tangible results through various initiatives and projects:

• Climate Planning: Coordinated and delivered the Municipal Climate Action Plans (PMAC) for its four municipalities and is currently leading their implementation and monitoring.
• Community Support: Manages the “S.ENERGIA +Próximo” advisory desks, integrated into the national Energy Spaces Network, to mitigate energy poverty and provide technical support to citizens.
• Efficiency & Innovation: Executes energy retrofitting of municipal and social infrastructures using state-of-the-art efficiency solutions and IoT.
• Strategic Roadmap: Utilizes cloud-based energy management tools as a foundation for expansion into energy communities, sustainable mobility, and decarbonization.
• Energy Literacy: Leads numerous awareness-raising and energy literacy initiatives to ensure the green transition is sustained by an engaged community.
