A knowledge centre for the energy transition and sustainable energy representing 6 municipalities in the South of Porto Metropolitan Area. Energaia works towards the energy transition and recognises the importance of integrating multiple fields into its work.
South of Porto Metropolitan Area Energy Management Agency (Energaia) is the competence and knowledge centre for the energy transition and sustainable energy in the South of Porto Metropolitan Area.
Established in 2000, Energaia is focused on the interdisciplinary nature of the energy transition, realising that effective policies must integrate areas of the environment, urban development, energy, and information and communication technologies.
Initially a municipal energy agency for the city of Vila Nova de Gaia, since 2011, Energaia has been a regional energy agency representing six cities in the South of Porto region and represents over half a million inhabitants. Energaia is one of the oldest energy agencies in Europe and holds unique achievements like submitting one of the first successful ELENA applications in Europe and producing the first EU monitoring report in the context of the EU Covenant of Mayors.
Energaia is accomplished in data monitoring, with the agency being one of the first to establish a system to track energy consumption data for multiple municipalities.
Activities
The agency provides services to associated municipalities, such as the following:
- Consulting and advisory services;
- Development of projects and studies;
- Promotion of training;
- The dissemination of best practices;
- Conceiving, implementing, and monitoring Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPS) in the region;
- Data monitoring services.
