REGILIENCE first Open Training Session (OTS1) on the EU resilience landscape

The REGILIENCE team has held the first Open Training Session (OTS) of our series of capacity-building events for regional actors working on climate adaptation. This session focused on the EU resilience landscape and explored highly innovative EU initiatives and projects. This OTS aimed to provide guidance to regions on where to get support concerning the current challenges and needs faced by regions. Additionally, the opportunities to boost climate resilience developments were highlighted. The speakers provided valuable insights on EU strategies and initiatives, emphasizing the importance of adaptation and resilience strategies, multi-level governance, and networking as a mean to achieve climate resilience.

Takeaways

• The EU landscape on resilience and its framework covering the Climate Law and the EU Adaptation strategy including the links to national and international regulations like the IPCC AR6 Synthesis Report provides a supporting umbrella for regional adaptation work. An EU-wide climate risk assessment and the Adaptation Mission Charter are key in delivering regional support.
• Learning from the experience of frontrunners in the adaptation process and sharing the most promising solutions is key for REGILIENCE and the first Adaptation Mission project cluster.
• The Mission Implementation Platform (MIP4Adapt) will offer technical assistance to regions and provide hands-on support and knowledge to build adaptation strategies.
• Climate Change Adaptation requires timely actions of all actors within their fields and along all governance levels, for instance, the Policy Support Facility of the Covenant of Mayors which will help local and regional authorities to move from the planning to the implementation of adaptation strategies.
