About the Project
The LIFE project 4ENERAGENCIES supports the creation and operation of four new energy agencies in Spain — helping local authorities accelerate the clean energy transition and contribute to the EU’s 2030 and 2050 climate and energy goals.
Energy agencies are publicly mandated organisations that drive the energy transition within their territories. They design local energy strategies, support the implementation of projects, and facilitate investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Why 4ENERAGENCIES?
In many European regions, there is still a strong need for dedicated support structures to plan and coordinate local energy actions. 4ENERAGENCIES will fill this gap by establishing 4 new energy agencies in Spain:
- One in Rivas Municipality, a rapidly growing city near Madrid. The agency will help develop a comprehensive local energy plan and launch initiatives on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and digitalisation — strengthening the city’s local energy infrastructure.
- Three across Gran Canaria, an outermost island region facing significant challenges in energy self-sufficiency. Due to its isolation and lack of grid connection to mainland Spain (over 1,000 km away), the new agencies will focus on improving energy efficiency, boosting renewable energy production, and promoting innovation and digitalisation.
