Architecture et Climat is a research unit of the LAB institute at UCLouvain. The unit was created in 1980 and has the following mission statement: “Propose and validate solutions of resilience and innovation, at the scale of the built environment, to respond to the challenges of today and tomorrow”. Other topics of interest to the unit are the rational use of resources and the quality and performance of internal and external environments of buildings in different contexts.

Activities

To carry out its mission, Architecture et Climat uses methods based on scientific rigour, and quantitative and qualitative research methods (experimental, monitoring, modelling, etc.) The projects conducted by Architecture et Climat aim at promoting resilience and innovation to achieve multiple aims.

One of the objectives of Architecture et Climate is to characterise the buildings of today and tomorrow. To achieve this, the research unit is involved in sustaining building design, construction, operation, and renovation to improve its quality, energy performance, and the comfort and well-being of users.

Architecture et Climat’s projects also aim to promote strategies for the sustainable management of resources (circular economy, urban mining, etc.), considering environmental, social, and economic challenges at different temporal and spatial scales.

To build expertise, the research unit also supports the transfer of knowledge to building practitioners, professional bodies, students, and the public.
