Local Energy Agency Spodnje Podravje, institute for promotion of sustainable energy development, has been established by the Municipality of Ptuj in 2008 within the project “Establishment of 4 local energy management agencies in Córdoba (ES), Krško (SI), Bucharest (RO) and Ptuj (SI)”, co-financed by the Intelligent Energy Programme.

The Agency is located in Ptuj which is the oldest town in Slovenia and it acts in a region where are located 30 municipalities with approximately 180.000 inhabitants. Its main objectives are:

  • to promote the use of renewable energy and an efficient use of energy in the region;
  • to guarantee the continuity of the agency’s activities and
  • to relay the European energy policy to the local level.

LEA Spodnje Podravje is enhancing the sustainable energy development of the Spodnje Podravje region with the developing projects, studies, documents. LEA Spodnje Podravje assist municipalities to find the financial sources for projects and investments in energy sector, to control implementation (technical supervision) and to transfer sustainable energy technologies from universities, institutes, companies, especially from EU countries in order to find appropriate, sustainable and economically feasible measures to decrease energy consumption, to increase energy efficiency and to implement renewable energy sources.
