The purpose of the POLLEC project is to provide financial, technical and methodological support to Walloon municipalities wishing to set up a Local Energy and Climate Policy within the framework of the Covenant of Mayors. The project was launched in 2012 on three different campaigns. The last one, POLLEC 3, has achieved the participation of 80 new municipalities in 2017.
In total, almost 80% of Walloon municipalities are involved in the project. The project was initiated in 2012 with the coordination of APERe, the association for the promotion of renewable energy sources. The goal is to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 20% by 2020 and 40% by 2030 as well as to anticipate climate change through local adaptation.
To date, 45 municipalities have already developed and implement their plans; 55 others committed to developing it in 2017; while the 80 new participating municipalities will start to benefit from the experience gained within the network.
