European Energy Service Award 2017 – Results
On the 31st of May stand the 2017 edition of the European Energy Service Award.

The winners of the competition have been honoured within a high level award ceremony at Red Town Hall Berlin by Berlin’s Senator for Economy, Energy and Public Enterprises, Ramona Pop, CEO of Berliner Energieagentur (BEA), Michael Geissler, as well as jury member, Dr. Julije Domac (FEDARENE).
Category „Best Energy Service Project“
Energy Performance Contacting Project at Hvidovre Hospital, Denmark: In cooperation with Siemens, eight buildings were equipped with a central building management system, the lighting was renewed, an energy management system was implemented, photovoltaic and wind power plants were installed as well as wide-ranging measures in the field of air-conditioning and ventilation were implemented. Thus, the Danish hospital achieved not only savings of around 23 per cent in electricity and 41 per cent in heat but also more than 4.000 tons CO2.
RenoWatt: A One Stop Shop Facilitating Energy Performance Contracting for Public Authorities in Belgium: Within the project RenoWatt, the Local Development Agency of Liège area (GRE-Liège) supports 13 municipalities in Belgium in implementing energy saving measures like for example the insulation of roofs, windows or the building envelope, the usage of renewable energy or optimization of building operation in public buildings. Therein, the agency supports the tendering process, helps to choose energy service companies (ESCOs) and performs energy audits. Thus RenoWatt contributes to strengthen the local economy while reducing energy costs by 22 million Euros and prime energy consumption by 32 GWh per year. The experiences are shared within workshops and conferences with further municipalities.

The Italian construction company Edilvi S.p.A. developed an innovative standardization process for energy related renovation and modernisation of buildings by using Energy Performance Contracting. Within this process, the different needs, structures and financial possibilities of private households, companies and public authorities are taken into account. Based on this data, optimal energy saving measures could already be successfully implemented and many buildings could be transformed into „Nearly Zero Emission Buildings“. These are now labelled as „CasaSmartPlus“.
Category „Best European Energy Service Promoter“:
Energy Agency Dublin (Codema): Founded as a Non-Profit Organisation by Dublin City Council, Codema works together with local authorities in order to help meet their energy performance targets through professional development and implementation of good and best practice. Codema supported as project facilitator implementing Ireland’s first Energy Performance Contracting Project at Dublin municipality in three sports- and fitness centres. Thus, the municipality saves around 165.000 Euro energy costs and 639 tons of CO2 per year. With wide-ranging communication and marketing measures, Codema ensures that other public buildings and municipalities learn from this best practice in order to replicating further Energy Performance Contracting Project.

Conference of Mayors: Translating the EU Green Deal into local actions
The high level event, titled Conference of Mayors: Translating the EU Green Deal into local actions, was organised by the Flemish Government within the framework of the Belgian Presidency of the EU Council. The event took place in Brussels on the 15th of March 2024, split between morning sessions hosted by the European Parliament, and 3 afternoon parallel sessions hosted by the Committee of the Regions.
