World Sustainable Energy Days 2027
About the Event
The World Sustainable Energy Days return to Wels, Austria, from 2 to 5 March 2027, bringing together over 650 experts from more than 60 countries. Organised by OÖ Energiesparverband, the event remains a key meeting point for Europe’s energy transition.
From 2 to 5 March 2027, OÖ Energiesparverband, the regional energy agency of Upper Austria, will once again transform Wels into a hub for the sustainable energy community, as the World Sustainable Energy Days return for another edition, bringing together participants from over 60 countries. Six conferences run in parallel throughout the event:
Young Energy Researchers Conference (2 March)
This conference gives young researchers in energy efficiency and biomass a platform to present their work, while offering the chance to connect with peers and industry experts from around the world and start building a lasting network.
European Pellet Conference (3 March)
Pellets offer a fast, cost-effective and reliable path to affordable energy, though the sector faces real headwinds, from a strong policy focus on electrification to lingering investment reluctance. The 2027 edition will highlight what makes pellets stand out and how that strength can drive fresh momentum for the market, bringing together the whole value chain alongside public bodies, researchers and other experts as the world’s largest annual pellet event.
One-Stop Shops Workshop (3 March)
This workshop looks at one-stop shops for building renovation, Energy Communities, SMEs and other areas, alongside relevant EU policies, business models and financing. It also covers upskilling, with an OSS marketplace and OSS coaching on offer.
European Energy Efficiency Conference (3 to 5 March)
As Europe works to keep energy affordable, hit its climate goals and rely less on energy imports, this conference puts energy efficiency at the centre of the solution. It gathers businesses, researchers, public authorities and other experts to share the latest policies, technologies and solutions shaping a secure and sustainable energy future.
Energy Efficiency Policy Conference (4 March)
This conference covers the newest EU policies, from the Electrification Action Plan and Affordable Energy Action Plan to the Grids Package and EU funding. It also looks at energy security, local and regional action, flexibility, storage and finance.
Industrial Energy Transition Conference (4 March)
This conference looks at how EU policies, from the Clean Industrial Deal to the Industrial Accelerator Act, can help keep industry competitive. It covers electrification, energy flexibility and storage, hydrogen, energy efficiency, solar PV, carbon capture and process heat, backed up with real industrial case studies.
Smart E-Mobility Conference (5 March)
Smart E-Mobility Conference looks into the policies and markets shaping electric vehicles, alongside the latest innovations in vehicles, batteries and charging. It also looks at fleet electrification, grid integration, bidirectional charging and flexibility, and what it takes to become an EV-ready region or city.

Past editions have welcomed speakers from the International Energy Agency and the International Renewable Energy Agency, along with representatives of the European Commission and regional energy agencies from across Europe. Names for the 2027 edition have not yet been announced.
