Sustainable Transport

Driving Europe toward truly clean, efficient, and accessible transport for all.

Transport accounts for over one-third of final energy consumption in the EU and nearly a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions, with fossil fuels still dominating the sector. Achieving the Green Deal targets requires a 90% reduction in transport emissions by 2050, demanding faster deployment of clean, renewable, and efficient mobility solutions across all modes of transport—road, rail, aviation, and waterborne. The EU Electrification Action Plan will tackle the issue of the electrification and transport and aim at accelerating the sector’s energy transition. Regional and local Energy Agencies support this transition by promoting electric mobility, renewable fuels, and innovative transport technologies, while encouraging behavioural change among citizens, businesses, and municipalities. By fostering innovation, sharing expertise, and demonstrating practical solutions, Energy Agencies help make sustainable mobility accessible, efficient, and inclusive throughout Europe.
