On February 18th, Eco Eye episode ‘Sustainability in the Public Sector’ featured our CEO Paul Kenny, Seamus Hoyne (Director of Tipperary Energy Agency) LIT Thurles, Michael Woulfe and Jim McGuire, Senior Engineers, North Tipperary County Council.

The programme looked at the energy-saving measures that North Tipperary County Council has made at Coolbawn Treatment Plant, public swimming pools and insulating social houses in the county.  It looks at how North Tipperary County Council has switched its four swimming pools from oil heating to locally sourced woodchip, reducing energy bills by 50%.

At LIT Thurles, Semaus Hoyne explained how the college has made huge improvements in reducing energy and is supplying its heat from renewable energy. The €30,000 in oil savings that LIT Thurles is making, which would otherwise be leaving the county,  is reinvested back into the college.

Paul Kenny met Duncan in Nenagh where they looked at the retrofit of social houses in progress and how Tipperary is on target to retrofit all social housing in the county by 2015.
