Energy savings are the number one priority this winter, but also an integral part of the journey to 2050 – the year the EU aims to become a climate-neutral continent. Across Europe, local and regional energy agencies are preparing for the coming period by implementing a range of measures. These measures will have an immediate impact that boosts the resilience of European energy reserves today, and they will also provide a roadmap for achieving the targets set for 2050.
From education to digitalisation, FEDARENE members continue to conjure innovative ways to encourage sustainable energy use among citizens, businesses, and civil society. As well as efficiency initiatives, members also facilitate the switch to renewable sources to cut down on fossil fuels in the first place. In this spirit, they have developed tools, organised school competitions, encouraged citizens to pool together as energy communities, and much more.
With this in mind, FEDARENE launches a new campaign to highlight energy-saving and RES measures carried out by its members during the crisis. Throughout the 2022/23 winter season and as part of the REPowerEU plan, these innovative measures demonstrate what energy agencies, regions, and islands can do today; looking beyond this winter, their solutions also offer medium- and long-term options for those seeking a lasting impact.
Without further ado, read on to discover the latest contributions from the FEDARENE network to the REPowerEU plan, and remember the saying: “the most sustainable energy is the one we don’t use”!
