The end of the year marked an important milestone: the REGILIENCE project concluded, and the new REGILIENCE+ initiative officially started in October, opening an exciting next phase in EU’s effort to strengthen regional climate resilience.
Over the past four years, REGILIENCE supported its seven focus regions through tailored capacity-building activities, helping local and regional authorities implement adaptation measures and overcome related challenges and barriers. At the same time, the project shared knowledge more widely across Europe by coordinating closely with sister projects ARSINOE, IMPETUS, and TransformAr. This collaboration allowed REGILIENCE to showcase tools and innovation, leveraging the strengths of partner projects to provide richer, more practical resources to regions beyond its target areas.
REGILIENCE+ builds directly on this legacy. As one of the 2026 flagship projects of the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change, it aims to equip European local and regional authorities and supporting organisations with the knowledge, tools, and resources needed to implement effective, context-specific climate adaptation strategies. The project seeks to scale up support and make adaptation knowledge more actionable, relevant, and widely accessible. Its key outcomes include:
- Harvesting and sharing proven solutions: Gather 150 case studies, adaptation options, and tools, and incorporate inventory updates into mainstream climate adaptation knowledge platforms, including Climate-ADAPT and the Mission Implementation Platform (MIP4Adapt)
- Developing multilingual resources: Produce over 70 training materials, guides, and communication products in multiple languages to facilitate wider adoption of adaptation practices.
- Fostering collaboration and impact: Promote cooperation with Mission projects, signatories, and innovation initiatives, thereby increasing the reach and effectiveness of adaptation actions.
By combining these efforts, REGILIENCE+ ensures that knowledge is not only available but also encourages more systemic, smarter, and swifter adaptation at local and regional levels.
FEDARENE has been actively involved in both REGILIENCE and the new REGILIENCE+ project, and we are proud to continue contributing to connecting regions, supporting knowledge-sharing, and helping local and regional authorities turn climate adaptation knowledge into concrete action.
Help shape REGILIENCE+
To ensure REGILIENCE+ provides meaningful and targeted support, the project is launching a Needs Assessment Survey to gather insights from local and regional actors on their adaptation priorities. This information will help guide the design and implementation of project activities so they effectively respond to stakeholders’ needs.
Therefore, the REGILIENCE+ team invites all local and regional authorities, universities, NGOs, energy or climate agencies, and other organisations involved in adaptation to share their perspectives by completing the survey. Contributions will directly inform the project’s tools, trainings, communication products, and policy recommendations, ensuring they are relevant and responsive to on-the-ground needs.
The Need Assessment Survey at a glance
The survey takes you through a short introduction to understand the background of your feedback, followed by a section to identify your needs in terms of adaptation solutions and another to explore your needs related to knowledge products and services. It concludes with an optional follow-up section if you wish to stay connected. Completing the survey takes about eight minutes, and all responses are treated confidentially.
