Closer cooperation on offshore wind in the Baltic Sea
One more step for offshore wind energy ! Energy ministers for the eight countries from the Baltic Sea region and Kadri Simson signed a declaration for closer cooperation on offshore wind !

On September 30th, Energy ministers for Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Sweden and the Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson signed a declaration stating their commitment to closer cooperation on offshore wind in the Baltic Sea.
Why such a declaration?
- The EU needs to scale up its offshore wind energy capacity estimated to be at least 20 times today’s installed capacity in the EU-27 (12GW). According to recent studies, the Baltic Sea alone has the potential for offshore wind power of 93 GW.
- A cooperative and regional approach would make it more efficient to achieve this goal.
Aware of this significant opportunity, the Energy Ministers for the eight EU Member States and Kadri Simson embraced the idea of a new special working area within the high-level group of the Baltic Energy Market Interconnection Plan (BEMIP).
