Bridging the Gap: How Multilevel Governance Can Accelerate Climate Solutions

Multilevel Governance (MLG) is a collaborative approach that engages national, regional, and local governments and agencies as equal partners to efficiently plan and implement measures, addressing complex challenges such as climate change and energy efficiency.

Well-structured MLG practices ensure that financial resources are used effectively to meet local needs and priorities while aligning with broader national and regional objectives. By fostering collaboration across different levels of governance, MLG practices can ensure that funds are used effectively and that local needs are met.

The Covenant of Mayors, the regio1st project and the Committee of Regions are joining forces to dive deep into the topic during this in-person event in Brussels.

The primary objective of this event is to explore how MLG practices can enhance the efficient use of European structural funds, as well as regional funds, to support cities and other local stakeholders. Additionally, the event will discuss how MLG can facilitate local authorities in implementing energy efficiency measures and ensure that energy efficiency considerations are included as first and core principle in all strategies across all sectors of our society.

To do so, the event will first showcase the POLLEC programme of the Walloon Region, Belgium, also talking with beneficiary cities of the programme, to understand the added value of MLG practices at the regional level, as well as the challenges in running the programme.

Participants will then move to a panel discussion with key actors and facilitators of MLG practices in Europe.

This event aims to bring together national and regional authorities and agencies to share best practices, identify challenges, and propose solutions for improving MLG in the context of fund utilization and energy efficiency.
