The event, organized by the City of Cres, the Island Development Agency OTRA, and the Island Movement, includes working meetings of project partners on the ISLET project, a conference, and a field visit to local energy projects. In addition to project partners, the event will bring together numerous island stakeholders from across Europe. We will be joined by members of the European Small Islands Federation (ESIN) as well as representatives from Croatian, Finnish, Swedish, Danish, Irish, Scottish, Greek, Maltese, and Italian islands, providing an excellent opportunity for exchanging experiences and strengthening cooperation among island communities.
Participants will have the chance to discuss the future of energy communities, share experiences from various countries, and learn about successful projects and practices that have already delivered results. A special focus will be on presenting the goals and activities of the ISLET project, whose main aim is to create long-term solutions for the sustainability of island energy systems.
During the event, with the support of partners from the Green Energy Cooperative, the international conference “Future of Energy Communities” will also take place, where the challenges that island communities face in the establishment and development of energy community projects will be discussed. The emphasis will be on innovative solutions that can help strengthen their resilience and energy independence. Representatives of the European Commission, the Clean Energy for EU Islands Secretariat, and the Ministry of Economy will participate in the conference to discuss European and national regulatory frameworks, identify barriers to the creation of energy communities, and propose ways to overcome them.
This gathering provides an exceptional opportunity to establish long-term partnerships and develop new projects that will significantly contribute to the sustainability of European islands. The exchange of knowledge and experiences among island communities will further strengthen their joint efforts toward a greener and more sustainable future, while simultaneously encouraging the development of energy communities across Europe.
