Energy Efficiency in Buildings

Making Europe’s buildings healthier, more affordable, and climate-proof through smarter renovation and planning.

Buildings account for around 40% of Europe’s energy consumption and 36% of CO₂ emissions, making them central to the EU’s climate and energy goals. The revised Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) and the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) both acknowledge the crucial role of Regional and Local Energy Agencies. From supporting authorities in long-term planning to developing one-stop shops for renovations, implementing Minimum Energy Performance Standards, or running Energy Performance Contracting schemes, agencies are at the forefront of delivery. With the European Commission’s recent EPBD implementation package guiding Member States in transposition, energy agencies are recognised as key partners to make Europe’s building stock more efficient, affordable, and sustainable.
