Biogas Action – Institutional building and networking Southeast Sweden

In Sweden where electricity and heat are mainly produced from non-fossil energy carriers, biomethane is considered an interesting alternative fuel in the transport sector, where the dependency on fossil fuels remains high. Today there are 61 plants that upgrade biogas to biomethane in Sweden. Both the bio-methane volume used for vehicle fuel as well as the number of vehicles that are able to run on bio-methane has increased considerably since the start. Today 73 % of the gas used in transport is biomethane and only 27 % is natural gas.

Aims and Objectives of Biogas Sydost

Biogas Sydost is a regional network consisting of private as well as public key actors and stakeholders from the whole biomethane value chain. The task is to improve the conditions for biomethane in the southeast part of Sweden. By bringing different actors together, Biogas Sydost makes it possible to reach the targets set on the regional level.

How this Action could be Replicated

These kinds of networks can be built anywhere. There are no real barriers but of course, they will have to be adapted to specific conditions.
