Biography

Seamus Hoyne is the Dean of Flexible and Work-Based Learning and Director of Industry Engagement at the Technological University of the Shannon. With a background as a mechanical engineer and holding master’s degrees in renewable energy and energy management from the University of Limerick and the University of Ulster, he has been involved in R&D in the energy sector since 1993. 

From 1998 to 2012, Seamus served as the Managing Director of the Tipperary Energy Agency (TEA), growing the organisation from its initial concept to become one of the leading energy agencies in Ireland and Europe. He has been involved in over 25 EU-funded R&D Projects, including acting as coordinator for the EU CONCERTO Project SERVE (2007-2012), which oversaw an investment of €10.4 million in sustainable energy in North Tipperary. He now acts as Chair of the agency.

As the Secretary General of FEDARENE, Seamus helped establish the FEDARENE Island College in 2019 and coordinates the EU ManagEnergy Service on behalf of the EU Commission, providing support to Energy Agencies across the EU on stimulating sustainable energy investments.
