Members of the European Parliament support 16 FEDARENE amendments

Since the Commission proposed revisions to the Energy Efficiency Directive in July 2021, FEDARENE focused its advocacy efforts on strengthening the role of regions, their energy agencies and their observatories in the text. To this end, FEDARENE formulated amendments and presented them to the European Parliament’s Rapporteur and Shadow Rapporteurs in online meetings.

The EP rapporteurs and other members are supporting 16 amendments, based on recommendation made by FEDARENE, notably the ones:

  • strengthening the role of energy agencies in several articles in regards to: developing one-stop shops providing technical and financial advice and solutions to households; alleviation of energy poverty;
  • requesting Member States to engage with regional energy observatories specialised in collecting/processsing data providing advice in policy development;
  • proposing specific support programmes accelerating the energy transition of companies;
  • proposing heating & cooling market analysis and tailored programmes.

In this next phase, FEDARENE will focus efforts on securing support within the European Parliament to ensure these amendments are adopted. Supportive Members of the European Parliament include Niels FuglsangJutta PaulusRomana JerkovićMonika Beňová and Robert Hajšel.
