Plovdiv Hosts Innovative Renovation Expo for Sustainable Homes

From 25 to 28 September 2024, the Energy Agency of Plovdiv (EAP) hosted its first Residential Renovation Marketplace and Brokerage Expo during the International Technical Fair in Plovdiv. The significant event, organised in collaboration with the Plovdiv Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Municipality of Plovdiv, aimed to promote sustainable home renovation practices.

Empowering Homeowners

The primary objective of the expo was to bridge the gap between homeowners and renovation professionals, fostering integrated home renovation projects. The event empowered citizens to make informed decisions about upgrading their homes for improved energy efficiency and sustainability by showcasing advanced energy services, technologies, and solutions.

Comprehensive Support for Homeowners

Residents of the Plovdiv Region were invited to free consultations with ten trusted renovation providers through the MultiHome Service Hub. This service, established under the European project MultiHome supporting energy-efficient renovations, brought together experts to offer guidance on key topics such as energy performance audits, sustainable construction materials, low-energy reconstruction, advanced insulation systems, heat pumps, and solar solutions. Municipal experts from Plovdiv City also consulted the citizens on providing step-by-step guidance on the administrative processes involved in residential renovations. All visitors received “MultiHome Welcome Packs” with tailored advice to support their renovation plans.

Engaging demonstrations and expert guidance

A highlight of the expo was a series of four live roadshows, designed to educate and engage visitors. Attendees experienced thermal 3D imaging with drones, explored the use of Passivhaus materials, received practical tips for installing photovoltaic (PV) systems, and learned effective methods for improving heating comfort.

Launch of the MultiHome Service

The event also marked the debut of the MultiHome service, a specialised integrated home renovation initiative piloted by the Energy Agency of Plovdiv. Operating through the MultiHome Service Hub and Platform, this service aims to support homeowners in creating comprehensive renovation projects. It emphasises ambitious reconstruction practices while integrating advanced HVAC systems and renewable energy technologies for both single- and multifamily buildings throughout the Plovdiv Region.

Impact and outcomes

The event attracted over 500 attendees and facilitated more than 200 energy consultations. It successfully connected citizens with renovation professionals, fostering collaboration and trust. As a direct result, over 50 follow-up meetings were scheduled with representatives of single- and multifamily buildings to explore potential renovation projects in greater detail.
