Wood: Competition and complementarities of forestry uses in Île-de-France

In order to better understand the global pressure placed on the resource, but also to avoid the development in silos of the sectors, this study proposes an examination of the environmental pressures and constraints (on water, soil, biodiversity, climate, etc.) but also a summary of the impacts on logistics and silvicultural practices linked to the development of these two uses.

Based on a bibliographic analysis and a series of interviews, this study aims to present a map of the uses of forest wood and to analyze the potential impacts related to increased mobilization of this material, in particular the environmental impacts, on forestry practices and on logistics channels. This study also formulates a number of recommendations for communities to support the development of the sectors.

Presenting both an analysis of the Ile-de-France forest today, its uses and future wood mobilization trends, this study highlights the development timeframe of each sector, their development opportunities and their impacts on forests. in Île-de-France.

Ultimately, this study formulates avenues for reflection on how communities can engage in energy and biobased materials sectors in order to ensure the concomitant development of these sectors while preserving the biological and ecosystem functioning of the Ile-de-France forests.
