Do it yourself (DIY) manual for mobilising and engaging stakeholders and citizens in climate change adaptation planning and implementation

MIP4Adapt has developed a “do-it-yourself” (DiY) manual for regional and local authorities to better understand each of these steps and associated tools and methods and help implement them.

Adapting to the impacts of climate change is a complex challenge. The identification and implementation of effective solutions can be facilitated by engaging and mobilising stakeholders and citizens, who often have diverse values, beliefs and perceptions. Building common understanding and ownership of climate adaptation plans and actions is key to their successful and sustained delivery.

A successful process for engaging stakeholders and citizens should:

  1. Improve communication of climate-related information
  2. Design a sustained engagement strategy
  3. Provide opportunities for deliberative and inclusive dialogues
  4. Catalyse stakeholders’ and citizens’ mobilisation, involvement, and action.
