EUROPE 2030 – A EUROPE READY FOR CLIMATE NEUTRALITY

Since 1990, FEDARENE has been bringing Europe and its regions closer together in overcoming their energy and climate challenges. As a federation of regions and energy agencies, we are witnessing how actions to achieve Climate Neutrality bring vitality to local communities, stimulate economic development and alleviate social and environmental issues.

2024-2029 is the legislative term of the future, and the future is now. The energy transition and climate change challenge is now. The new representatives of the European Parliament and European Commission can make the next 5 years be remembered in history as a turning point in Europe’s global leadership.

The EU has proven its ability to overcome subsequent crisis, putting the interest of its citizens before “business-as-usual” policy making. The European Green Deal laid solid foundations for a European climate and energy policy that is overcoming the main challenges of our times. Achieving the 55% reduction target by 2030 is Europe’s first test on its way to Climate Neutrality.

In partnership with local and regional authorities, Europe can succeed if it embraces 3 main drivers:

• TRUST that European local and regional initiatives can lead the energy transformation
• INNOVATION unleashed by local and regional change agents
• LEADERSHIP of local decision makers who take actions for radical transformation

Regions, Municipalities and their Energy Agencies stand ready to support the European Commission and European Parliament in leading the transformation.

Moreover, FEDARENE shares its vision, priorities and commitments. This policy document is a culmination of our past years of narrative building and lobbying, as well as a roadmap for our policy activities for the next years.
