What’s new in the negotiations on the recast of the Energy Efficiency Directive

As the next trilogue will take place on the occasion of the next European Parliament plenary on 14 December 2022, FEDARENE offers an overview of the most crucial points of negotiations.

The recast of the Energy Efficiency Directive is one of the highlights of the EU’s legislative agenda. The Directive is indeed a crucial piece of the package foreseen under the new REPowerEU plan, in a context of uncertainty as to the energy supplies and high energy prices.

FEDARENE is following closely the advances of the negotiations on this Directive which, if ambitions are safeguarded, could have far-reaching implications for markets and societies across Europe. However, no landing zone has been agreed upon and negotiations are being intensely scrutinized, as they set the tone for other pieces of legislations – e.g. Energy Performance of Buildings Directive – to be negotiated in the next months.

This brief provides an overview of the novelties and articles at stake for the next rounds of negotiations.
