For the first time in Croatia, the President has chosen a special adviser for energy and climate policies. This itself is an exciting announcement, indicating that energy & climate are becoming key topics for leaders across the EU. In addition, this news is especially important for the FEDARENE Network, as the chosen adviser is our President Julije Domac.
With almost 20 years of experience, Mr Domac is surely fit for the job. Not only is he the director of REGEA, the regional energy agency of North-West Croatia, but he has also issued more than 60 scientific and professional papers in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency. In the past, he has acted as the national biomass programme coordinator in Croatia, project leader for UNIDO, lead expert for the World Bank, project director for FAO, expert evaluator for the European Commission and Task Manager for the International Energy Agency (IEA). Julije Domac is the President of FEDARENE since 2013.
Zoran Milanovic (Social Democratic Party – SPD) was elected as 5th President of Croatia on the 5th of January 2020. He will occupy this position for five years. He previously served as Prime Minister of Croatia from 2011 to 2016. Furthermore, he was also the Chairman of the SDP, the largest centre-left political party in Croatia, from 2007 to 2016.
As his new counsellor, Julije Domac aims to advise him on two levels: the national/EU dimension of energy and climate policy, but also on regional/local issues. According to him, these two dimensions should go hand in hand to go further into the Croatian Energy Transition.
