On May 31, Tipperary Energy Agency and Electric Ireland announced a new joint venture, named “Electric Ireland Superhomes”. Building upon the existing SuperHomes initiative, it aims to expand the project to the whole of Ireland.
Tipperary Energy Agency and Electric Ireland, Ireland’s largest energy provider, joined forces intending to deliver 35,000 deep home energy upgrades by 2030. As a direct result of the partnership, Electric Ireland Superhomes will create 200 jobs over the next five years and support the development of hundreds of more jobs indirectly through building contractors and other partners.
As part of the residential division of Tipperary Energy Agency, SuperHomes is a one-stop-shop initiative that aims to advise homeowners throughout all stages of their energy retrofit project. Its services deliver energy survey and retrofit design, the appointment of a qualified building contractor and provide support for grants applications (i.e., SEAI).
With the help of the extensive experience of Electric Ireland and the know-how of SuperHomes, the joint venture aims to accelerate energy efficiency renovations throughout Ireland.
Electric Ireland SuperHomes focus is whole-house, multi-measure deep retrofits (rather than individual energy upgrades) to bring homes to a minimum of a “B2”, corresponding to a high rate of the Irish Building Energy Rating system. Retrofit measures include the maximisation of energy efficiency, with the introduction of air to the water heat pump, advanced ventilation (heat recovery or demand-controlled), airtightness improvement (reducing draughts and heat loss) and insulation, which are brought to very high standards. The results of undertaking such projects consist of savings in energy bills, a warmer, healthier and more comfortable home, cuts in CO2 emissions and an increase in property value.
