The Civitas DESTINATIONS project aims to promote sustainable mobility in six island destinations: Madeira, Gran Canaria, Elba, Crete, Malta and Cyprus.
AREAM, the regional agency for Energy and Environment of the autonomous region of Madeira, is a partner of the Civitas DESTINATIONS project, along with 29 European partners. It aims to promote sustainable mobility in six island destinations: Madeira, Gran Canaria, Elba, Crete, Malta and Cyprus.
AREAM’s action is focused on promoting electric mobility among citizens, companies and other organisations, and emphasizing the importance to increase the contribution of renewable energy sources in small and remote power grids.
Currently, AREAM is organising two actions on electric mobility: a weeklong test drive of electric vehicles for members of the Regional Government of Madeira; and the onsite testing of an electric bus for public transport in Madeira and Porto Santo islands – e.City Gold electric bus, developed by CaetanoBus and Siemens.
AREAM is also involved in promoting sustainable mobility in schools together with the local authority of Funchal and public transport operators. This will include the development of mobility plans to mitigate accessibility problems in six pilot schools.
