“Fit for 55” package: is the EU on its way for fossil free cities?

Join this webinar to learn more about the Fit for 55 issues for local authorities regarding decarbonisation of buildings!

The 07 December 2021 from 15:00 to 16:30 Brussels time

Buildings today account for 36% of GHG emissions from energy in Europe. As part of the Fit for 55 package, which aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels, there must be a strong focus on decarbonisation measures for heating and cooling.

Cities are in the front line to decarbonise heating and cooling systems while conducting the renovation wave and drafting “heat planning”, and yet they are still facing numerous barriers limiting their capacity to lead this transition. This webinar aims therefore at highlighting the role cities can play in reaching the 55% CO2 emissions reduction by 2030, as long as the revised RED and EED provide the right support mechanisms and frameworks.

The webinar will consist of a presentation of the Fit for 55 issues for local authorities regarding decarbonisation of buildings, as well as a panel discussion moderated by the journalist Philippa Nuttall from the New Statesman including the following confirmed speakers:

  • Jutta PAULUS, Member of the European Parliament, Shadow Rapporteur on EED
  • Bo FRANK, Lord Mayor, City of Växjö (Sweden) and Vice President of Energy Cities
  • Adeline ROCHET, Senior Policy Advisor, Place Based transition team at E3G
