Securing the energy future through local action: how? 

Across Europe, cities and regions are leading the clean energy transition, but many—especially smaller municipalities—face a major challenge: limited resources and technical expertise to develop and implement ambitious energy and climate strategies. The good news? They don’t have to do it alone. 

Local and regional energy agencies act as dedicated partners, helping public authorities, companies, and citizens navigate the complexities of the energy transition. They provide technical assistance, access to funding, and strategic support to develop clean energy projects, improve energy efficiency, and secure a more stable and affordable local energy supply. This, in turn, reinforces energy security and strengthens the competitiveness of businesses and regions.

The revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) is clear: we need permanent structures. And energy agencies are already stepping into this role, acting as catalysts for OSS, and long-term, trusted hubs where municipalities, businesses, and citizens can access tailored advice and end-to-end project support. Their deep local roots and technical expertise make them uniquely positioned to link EU policy goals and on-the-ground implementation.
