Workshop

The Covenant Community: a trailblazer for the Green transition

Join this Covenant of Mayors – Europe workshop in the EU Regions Week!

The 13 October 2021 from 16:30 to 18:00 Brussels time

We all need to be committed to a sustainable recovery that enables a successful green transition. In this workshop, you will learn about success stories from the first bottom-up, multi-level model for the transition: the Covenant of Mayors.

This initiative brings together local governments, regions, Member States, citizens and local stakeholders who have made a voluntary commitment to implementing EU climate and energy objectives and to achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

The bottom-up, multi-level governance model of the Covenant of Mayors, that brings together local governments, regions, member states, citizens and local stakeholders, offers the key political tool towards a Green Transition. This continuous exchange between different governance levels enables Covenant cities to raise awareness about local needs amongst European and national decision-makers and allows to tailor the initiative to fit local expectations of citizens.

This workshop aims at demonstrating how the Covenant of Mayors multi-level governance works in practice to accelerate the Green Transition, building on examples of the CoMmunity of Supporters and Coordinators. A particular emphasis will be given to the European Committee of the Regions Ambassadors and the role of the 2nd Chamber endorsing and reinforcing the initiative in the Member States, in cooperation with the European Commission, the CoMO, CoR and the National Associations of local and regional governments.
