ePLANET / Pilot regions

ePLANET aims to improve the coordination between local authorities and regional governments by fostering the digitalisation of energy data available in dispersed data sources.

Pilot regions

The proof of concept of ePLANET -ensuring correct deployment of tools and effective focus on real needs of public authorities- will be developed and validated in the following three pilot regions:

CATALONIA (ES) – Generalitat de Catalunya Institut Català (ICAEN)
+ Diputació de Girona

ZLÍN REGION (CR) – Energy Agency of the Zlín region (EAZK)

CRETE ISLAND (GR) – Regional Development Fund of Crete (RDFC)

Surveys on energy transition data collection were conducted in the pilot regions to evaluate their necessities, not only in energy transition matters such as infrastructure, renewable energies, actions taken or sectors included but also in capacity building. The results stress that the main problems are related to a lack of technical staff, a lack of clear and coherent legislation and the reduced involvement of the national authorities. As far as difficulties in daily tasks are concerned, the main obstacles are the coordination with other levels of governance (local, regional, national) and choosing the measures to save energy at the local level.

The ePLANET H2020 project has received funding from the European Union‘s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement N° 101032450.

ePLANET Meeting in Paris outlines the pathway towards regional implementation

After the first half of the project duration, the recap of the achievements especially on Multi-level governance and the different Use-cases of the ePLANET platform helped to plan and design the further regional integration of the results and replication in the ePLANET follower regions.

Governance: what does it mean, and how is ePLANET helping?

The ePLANET project identified best practices of governance structures that optimise the planning and implementation of effective energy & environment policies in Europe. But what is governance exactly? Why is it important? And how can it be improved?

Improving governance and regional coordination through data: the ePLANET data platform forum

At the fourth stakeholder forum of the ePLANET project, participants discussed the new data platform tool. The tool will ease and speed up the SECAP drafting and monitoring process, enable the analysis of buildings' energy performance, and facilitate better planning of energy communities.
